Simulation Creation Process
Simulation Need
A need for a simulation is expressed verbally, use a quote, as well as written, the information from the request form, to show that education and skill enhancement is needed for this specific department.
Ex: EVS learning about what the simulation institute has to offer and wishing to schedule simulations that allow for onboard training as well as practice for patient interaction and proper cleaning of patient rooms.
Simulation Planning
After a simulation request form is received, a meeting is scheduled and commenced between the lead instructor, who put in the request, and the MSI staff. The goals of the simulation are discussed as well as the specific details of the simulation
Ex: For the EVS simulations, a meeting took place and they discussed practicing proper cleaning techniques by cleaning the simulation institute and working out a schedule to ensure those onboarding as well as those on various
Simulation execution
After the planning of the simulation is finalized, it is scheduled and executed either in the simulation institute or in-situ.
Ex: EVS came into the simulation institute for onboarding training, learning how to properly clean patient rooms and how to interact with patients who are in the room at the time of the cleaning. Scheduling simulations at various times rather than all at once so the groups can be smaller.
Simulation Debriefing
After the simulation has been concluded it is discussed what was done well and what could have been done differently. Areas of improvement are noted for future simulations.
Ex: EVS discussed that during their simulation the general cleaning and patient interaction was solid however there were certain aspects such as making sure “odd” spots in the room are cleaned, even if they look clean, to ensure that everything the patient may come into contact with is clean.
Simulation Data
Data from the exit surveys is collect and used for future simulations.
Ex: EVS noted three specific things that they were looking to improve upon and only one of them showed growth, so for future simulations things are going to be done slightly different to focus on that specific outcome.
